Dr. Bruce Armstrong, Cultural Affairs Office,
U.S. Embassy, Manila, visited Ilocos
Norte and lectured on”The Multicultural American Society”at the two campuses of the Mariano Marcos State
University (MMSU) -- College of Teacher Education Social Hall, Laoag Campus and
University Training Center, Batac Campus -- on September 14-15, 2006,
respectively.

A bibliography
pertaining the topic was prepared
and distributed by the American Studies Resource Center (ASRC) staff to the participants. A total of 450 individuals were enlightened
about the topic. This included university officials, faculty/staff members
and students as well as officers and members of the American Studies
Association in the Ilocos and guests
from other agencies/institutions.
After his
lecture on September 14, 2006,
Dr.Armstrong had a dialogue with
faculty members of the university on the
possible programs for Philippine-American Friendship Year. At 7:30 p.m. of the
same day, he was also interviewed on the subject matter on “Sona
Libre” (Free Zone), a public affairs program of DZVR, Bombo, by Station
Manager, Mr. Antonio Casimiro. On
September 15, 2006, Dr. Armstrong visited the ASRC-MMSU.
Dr.
Armstrong’s recent visit to the province
and to the MMSU was a manifestation of the continuing close relationship
between Americans and Filipinos, particularly
Ilocanos.
